Program Features

  • Your Chase mortgage expert can make a side-by-side comparison between the Union Plus mortgage and the other mortgages you may be considering.

  • Call to check on getting pre-approved — which gives you an advantage over other buyers by allowing you to house hunt as a “cash buyer”.
  • Advice from Chase mortgage experts and an easy application process right over the phone or in-person.
  • Down payments as low as 5% - and even lower for qualified buyers.
  • Special programs for first-time homebuyers.

  • Parents and children of union members are also eligible for Union Plus mortgages.

First Home
Award

If you're an active or retired member and use Union Plus Mortgage to buy your first home, we'll give you the chance to earn a Welcome to Your First Home Award ($500 to help with "new home" expenses).

Within 90 days after you close your mortgage loan, we'll mail you an application, a Union Membership Verification form and a pre-addressed envelope.

To apply, you must return to us by the deadline shown on the application the following:

  1. The completed application form
  2. The Union Verification form, completed by you and a representative of your local union
  3. An essay (up to 500 words, typed or printed legibly) describing your experience with the Union Plus Mortgage loan process and what owning your first home means to you.

Within 60 days after we get all information from you, a $500 check will be mailed to you.

By accepting the award, you give Union Privilege permission to use your name; photograph (if one is supplied); your application responses; and all or parts of your essay in its publications/Web site, as well as your union's publications and Web site with no additional compensation by the sponsors of this award.

Family members of union members and agency fee payers are not eligible for First Home Awards.  Only union members are eligible for First Home Awards.

Concerned about
the credit crisis?

We protect union members. Chase, the provider of Union Plus Mortgages, has

  • No negative amortizing loans.
  • Full disclosure for adjustable rate mortgages.
  • To make sure union members have the right product, every loan must pass a net benefit test to make sure loans are in the borrower’s best interest.
  • All borrowers are encouraged to contact Chase for a “mortgage check-up” to make sure that their mortgage is still right for them.

In fact, 92% of Union Plus Mortgage holders have fixed-rate loans, meaning that union members in our program are less exposed to the dangers of the current mortgage crisis.

Home foreclosures are up. Are you at risk? If you are facing financial trouble, you may be at risk of missing a mortgage payment. Falling behind on your payments would mean even more trouble for you. The Union Plus Save My Home Hotline may be able to help. Don't wait until it's too late — call 1-866-490-5361, any time day or night.

The Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA) provides the public with loan data that can be used to assess how financial institutions are serving the housing needs of their communities.

Are you struggling with debt? Find resources and tools to help at UnionDebtHelp.org. And call Union Plus Credit Counseling at 1-877-833-1745 for a free budget analysis and advice.

FAQs

Q: I don't know where to begin in my search for a house. Any advice?

A: Contact your Chase mortgage expert. They will be happy to answer all of your home-buying questions-from how much house you can afford, to what type of mortgage will best suit your needs.

Q: What does it take to get approved for a mortgage?

A: Ideally, you should have a good credit history, a record of stable employment and savings for a down payment. Contact your Chase mortgage expert.

Q: How much money do I need upfront to buy a house?

A: You will need cash for the down payment and the closing costs. Some mortgage lenders, on average, require at least 10% down, but Union Plus Mortgage and Real Estate lets you buy a house for 5% down (and as little as 3% for qualified buyers).

A: Your Union Plus program counselor can make a side-by-side comparison between the union mortgage and other mortgages you may be considering. Contact your Chase mortgage expert.
